Drug & Alcohol Inpatient Residential Programs
Our Inpatient Therapy Programs
Canadian Health Recovery Centre embraces a client-centered, whole-person approach to drug and alcohol addiction treatment. We use a variety of evidence-based therapies with an emphasis on nutrition to heal the body and mind to help clients understand the root causes of their addiction and address behavioural and thought patterns. We empower our clients with vital information about brain function and neuroplasticity to help them change behaviours and thought patterns that may be unhealthy.
Residential Inpatient Program
We treat the whole person – not just the addiction.
Treating the whole person is integral to true recovery. We understand that abstinence does not mean recovery. “White-knuckling” through each day is not true recovery and difficult to sustain. Simply stopping use does not address the underlying issues or reasons substance use and addiction began in the first. CHRC focuses on healing and providing our clients with the tools needed to thrive in recovery. We offer counselling to support clients in navigating the precipitating factors and we provide nutritional support to heal from the inside out.
Our inpatient rehab program offers a comprehensive treatment approach to addiction as well as behavioural addictions such as gambling, pornography, sex addiction, and video games. We also address concurrent mental health disorders, such as depression, anxiety disorder, PTSD and panic disorder as they relate to substance use and physical health. We provide clients with access to various forms of treatment, including individualized therapy, group therapy, and family counselling sessions.
We use evidence-based therapies and integrative treatment methods that have been proven to effectively treat addiction. We guide and support our clients in understanding their substance use and behaviours and how they relate with issues of self-esteem, self-worth, anxiety, and relationships.
Our trained psychotherapists and addiction counsellors use the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), with a focus on mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and relapse prevention.
Why Choose CHRC in Ontario?
CHRC is different from other inpatient rehab centres in Ontario, Canada. We’re a private, men’s only addiction treatment centre with a unique focus on nutrition and whole-body healing.
Why men only? We have found that men are more able and willing to open up emotionally absent the pressures of “competing” for female attention or the distraction of romantic relationships that often develop in a rehab setting.
Our world-class care team includes registered psychotherapists, certified nutritionists, experienced addiction counsellors, fitness experts, and others who work together to create personalized care plans for our clients. Unlike men’s residential treatment facilities that provide group counselling only, our clients engage in one-on-one sessions with registered therapists to dig deep into emotional issues that so often underlie addiction.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behavioural therapy is a structured type of psychotherapy done individually or in groups.
Working collaboratively with a therapist, the client learns how to identify and modify negative and unhelpful thought patterns. CBT helps clients understand how they view themselves, the world, and their future.
Clients learn to interpret events through a different lens and change how they think (cognition) and what they do (behaviour). This impacts how they feel and respond to stressful situations and emotional triggers.
Our therapists provide clients with various self-monitoring tools and homework to complete between sessions, which help them practice the skills they learned. Clients work through their thoughts and feelings in a safe and supportive environment, and the therapist helps them discover and practice healthy and adaptive alternatives.
Cognitive behavioural therapy can be adapted to a client’s unique problems and needs.
Our thoughts, behaviours, and emotions are shaped by our experiences throughout life. When we repeat a behaviour again and again, we establish a pattern, and this pattern is recorded in the brain. Once these pathways are established, it takes little to no effort to recall and engage them. In many cases our thought patterns, emotions, and behaviours become automatic.
Addiction involves a variety of neural pathways that influence and dictate our thoughts, behaviours, and emotions. While it’s not possible to eliminate neural pathways from the brain, we can form new ones. The more we repeat healthy patterns, the better we become at it—to the point where we can engage in a behaviour without having to think much about it.
At CHRC, we teach healthy coping strategies. We teach clients struggling with addiction about how negative thought patterns are established via neural pathways throughout their lives. Using guided techniques, we show clients how to observe and interrupt these pathways and learn to engage in new healthy thoughts and behaviours.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
Some people may struggle with regulation of intense emotions and responding in a healthy way. Dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) incorporates CBT to help clients respond to emotional situations more constructively.
CHRC offers dialectical behavioural therapy through our skills training groups and individual therapy sessions. Clients learn to identify the emotions, thoughts, sensations, and urges linked to their problematic behaviours, and they learn adaptive solutions.
DBT helps clients understand that all things are connected, and that change is constant and inevitable. Clients learn how to identify what they can change and accept what they cannot. They also learn how to cope with stress in a healthy way and communicate more effectively.
All of our programs are designed to support our clients in the best outcomes for recovery. Our integrative treatment approach ensures our clients receive the most effective evidence-based interventions, combined with holistic therapies, to support their individual path to recovery. CHRC offers a variety of programming as it relates to our holistic view of recovery including:
- Fitness training
- Auricular acupuncture
- Social Recreation
- Weekly Outings
- Near-infrared sauna
Benefits of Residential Inpatient Treatment
People who have a serious or life-threatening addiction, a history of relapse, or who are physically dependent on a substance should strongly consider residential treatment. The benefits of inpatient treatment include:
Security: Outside triggers and influences can pull even the most strongly committed person off course. A fresh environment without outside triggers can make all the difference. Your loved ones will rest easy knowing you’re in good hands at CHRC.
Structure: Accountability and active participation are integral parts of recovery at CHRC. You will be expected to participate in all group sessions, individual therapy sessions, and abide by the rules. Our program is intense but manageable, and you’ll have plenty of time for restorative activities like fitness training, yoga, and walks in nature.
Community: Fellowship is an important part of addiction recovery. At CHRC, you will be among peers who are going through similar struggles. Connecting with others and knowing you’re not alone can be very comforting.

Each client will be screened by one of our admission team members who will gather information about physical, emotional, medical and mental health as well as substance use history. From the first step, we take a holistic approach to treatment and work to understand each client’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
During the initial screening we will determine:
- How best to support a client through withdrawal management, or if support is needed before entering residential treatment.
- Which of our highly skilled Registered Psychotherapists is best suited to support the clients individual needs.
- If additional information from family physicians, psychiatrists or specialists is required.
Our multidisciplinary team meets regularly to reassess each client’s treatment plan as needed. Our priority is ensuring that our clients receive the personal attention, and consistent, quality care that is essential in helping our clients achieve their lasting recovery goals.
