Our procedure

Drug & Alcohol Detox Programs

At CHRC, an important part of the process of coming into residential treatment at CHRC is a screening conversation with one of our admission coordinators. This conversation ensures that the client is ready to safely begin our program. Once our guests have completed screening, our staff will help you map out your next steps.

Clients who are able to maintain sobriety for 72 hours (or more) prior to admission will often be ready to begin treatment. Because acute withdrawal can be life-threatening, we may recommend a medical clearance certificate from a family doctor or medical facility. Many of our clients find that natural alternatives like our near-infrared sauna, hot tub, and nutritional supplements can help them effectively manage minor withdrawal symptoms. If medical detox is required, we work collaboratively with service providers like New World Detox to arrange a time that coincides with admission into CHRC so that there is a seamless transition from detox directly into treatment. We can arrange to have one of our qualified staff to provide transport straight to our centre.

Types of Withdrawal Management

Clients are encouraged to work with staff for admission to withdrawal management to ensure a smooth transition from withdrawal management to CHRC to avoid the risk of use between programs.

Inpatient medical withdrawal management services area resource used by potential guests who require medical supervision through their withdrawal.  They are supported by medical professionals for a designated time.  There are both publicly funded and privately funded medical withdrawal centres. Our admissions coordinator is happy to navigate this process with guests.

Inpatient non-medical withdrawal management services are a resource for guests who are unable to meet our 72-hour sobriety criteria at home and would benefit from support and supervision through withdrawal.  There are no medical professionals on site, but hospitals can be utilized when needed. Clients may need to see their family doctor prior to admission to non-medical withdrawal management centres.  Our admissions coordinator is happy to navigate this process with guests.

Outpatient detox management options:

RAAM

Rapid Access Addictions Medicine clinics are available for guests to be provided outpatient support through withdrawal.  This can be through short term counselling, medications, or support in entering an inpatient withdrawal management centre.

Family doctor

Guests are encouraged to speak with their family doctor about substance use and discuss withdrawal management support. As a family doctor knows their patient’s medical history, they are a great resource in ensuring safe withdrawal management.  A guest’s family doctor may recommend medication or inpatient withdrawal management centre.

Opioid replacement therapy

Opioid replacement therapy should begin or be in progress prior to a client arriving at the centre.  Clients who may utilize this service are limited to those who have been using or abusing opiates.  CHRC will work with clients and the local clinic to ensure a smooth transition into care.  Clients who are on opioid replacement therapy may still require needed alternative withdrawal management support.
