Recovery takes time

Length of Rehab Stay

At CHRC we recognize that every person’s recovery journey is unique. Our treatment program for addiction and mental health is based on a 42-day recovery curriculum. While in treatment, clients are welcome to consider treatment extension in consultation with the clinical team and if recommended, days can be added on a weekly basis to facilitate the specific needs of each client. Longer stays include all the features of our 42-day program at a reduced rate.

While a majority of our clients take advantage of our full 42-day program, we also provide the options to start with 28 or 35 days as well as the opportunity to extend for up to 3 months of treatment.

Benefits of Longer Treatment Stays

Healing relationships

Canadian Health Recovery Centre offers family programming and support for those who stay at our inpatient program with us for 28 to 91 days.  Our clients are offered the opportunity to invite loved ones to attend our Family Matters Program.  This program provides family and loved ones a better understanding of substance use and addiction as well as how to help their loved one without enabling.

While clients are here, families have access to our counsellors for support.  Clients are also welcome to invite their family in on a family session to prepare for moving forward post-treatment. Clients can offer a family member of their choice two free counselling sessions.

Detoxification of the body

While active withdrawal would need to be managed through a medical clinic, or withdrawal management centre, CHRC can support clients who choose to taper off of Suboxone or Methadone and detox their system from any toxins that remain in their system from substance use.  Although abused substances may not be present, toxins can be held in the kidneys, liver, or skin for significant periods of time.  The longer a client is at the centre, the more they will have access to the nutritional program, near-infrared sauna, and the ability to use the Epsom salt baths.  With longer treatment stays, clients will further feel the benefits of these detox options and be less likely to return to substance use.

Creating new habits

Recovery requires a change in lifestyle, not just stopping the use of drugs or alcohol.  It can take weeks or months to establish these changes and integrate them into daily life.  These new habits and lifestyle require the creation of new neuropathways which can be difficult to form when clients are exposed to previous environments or behaviors before reinforcement of the patterns has been well established. With extended periods of time in treatment, clients can turn these new pathways into second nature which can support reducing chances of lapse or relapse and increase the ability to return to healthier behavior.

We all like a quick solution, with minimal disturbance to our regular lives.Addiction is one disease that will never have a simple cure. It’s not 30 days and problem solved, nor is 90 days a magic number. It’s stay in treatment as long as needed to develop the skills for lifelong recovery.

Support for Further Treatment

Recovery requires a change in lifestyle, not just stopping the use of drugs or alcohol.  It can take weeks or months to establish these changes and integrate them into daily life.  These new habits and lifestyle require the creation of new neuropathways which can be difficult to continue when clients are exposed to previous environments or behaviors before reinforcement of the patterns has been well established. With extended periods of time in treatment, clients can turn these new pathways into second nature which can support reducing chances of lapse or relapse and increase the ability to return to healthier behavior.
